Spelt naan in a bread-maker

Kate
This is such a ingeniously simple way to make spelt naan. This recipe for spelt naan in a bread-maker is pretty-much fool proof and the results are mouth watering. Spelt is an ancient form of wheat that is much easier to digest and, for most people, doesn't give the bloating, tiredness or other side-effects of eating wheat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp yeast for bread-making
  • 250 g white spelt flour
  • 1 tsp raw cane sugar
  • 1/2 tsp rock salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp plain yoghurt
  • 100 ml water
  • ghee/butter to brush naans
  • chopped coriander, cumin seeds etc to taste

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients except the ghee/butter to the bread-maker and put on the pizza setting. Panasonic bread-makers (the best kind as far as my research goes) have a pizza setting (45 mins); other makes should have a similar short dough setting.
  • When finished, remove from the bread-maker and place on a flour-dusted board.
  • Chop into 8 pieces.
  • Use your hands or a rolling pin to stretch the 8 pieces into ~1 cm thick circles or ovals.
  • Brush with ghee or butter, grind on a little rock salt, and place under a hot grill for a few minutes each side.
  • Serve warm with whichever curry you fancy!
